On Friday, April 15th, 2005, nearly 250 members and friends of the Parent Resource Center gathered at the mansion at the Village Club of Sands Point to spend a "Night in Casablanca." Guests enjoyed an enchanted evening filled with delicious Moroccan cuisine, beautiful piano music played by Edel Sanders, an exotic belly dancer, a roving magician, and a tarot card reader. At the end of the night, many guests left with fantastic prizes, including a week's vacation in Avignon, France. Congratulations to Grand Raffle winners Nancy and Eric Schlaefer, Dina and Victor Thomas, and Chris and Mark Nadolne.
But "A Night in Casablanca" was much more than a great party. It was a celebration of an important milestone in PRC history, its twenty-fifth anniversary as a cooperative organization dedicated to serving, nurturing, and educating Port Washington's families. More important, it was an opportunity to honor the eighteen women whose energy and commitment have made this organization such a vital resource to our community-the PRC's founder and the past presidents of the Board of Directors. Eleven of the past presidents attended the event, one traveling all the way from Chicago, and many Board alumni attended to support the honorees. PRC founder Lynn Randolph Patterson was unable to attend but sent a testimonial to be read in her absence. The past presidents were presented with a beautiful wall mosaic designed by artist Erica Tiger, and each received a watering can filled with flowers, symbolizing how the PRC continues to "water the seeds of our community." Nassau County Legislator Craig Johnson read a proclamation commending the PRC's work and applauding its founder and past presidents.
"A Night in Casablanca" raised $18,000 for the PRC, thanks to the hard work of the PRC staff, board, and members, as well as generous contributions from the community. Special thanks go to the Village Club of Sands Point for hosting this special event, and to all of the Casablanca Night sponsors: Agovino and Asselta, LLP; Accents on Real Estate; Fred and Nancy Nevins; Arthur P. Kaplan Agency; Daniel Gale Real Estate; Arnie & Lori Herz; Diane's Place Hair Salon; Harding Real Estate; Stop and Shop; James and Linda Guarino; and Grandparents of PRC children.
