Director's Letter

Dear Members

Sandy holding a PRC baby

What a thrill these past few months have been! I started as Executive Director just four days before the "Night in the Piazza" Gala on April 28, and things have just skated along from there. May was a process of getting to know how things worked (at least on a day-to-day basis) but June was a whirlwind, starting with the Memorial Day Parade, continuing with Harborfest, the Progressive Dinner, the PRC Board Turnover at Mi Ranchito, Summer Registration, and the preparation for Summer Camp, and culminating with our fantastic new event, the Birthday Party Expo.

By the time you read this, we will be close to the end of our summer session and preparing for the fall semester. Fall programming will be complete, and we will be busy planning our Fall events. As I'm sure you will see, we have an outstanding lineup of Fall classes, workshops and activities.

The best thing about working for the PRC is all of you and your terrific children. I have experienced such warmth, cooperation and patience as I have tried to fill Julie Harnick's "big shoes". So many people have lent a hand or given a kind word of advice and encouragement. Our staff is wonderful! They know everything and are so willing to share their experience. Barbara and Dora remember my children from when we were members of the PRC. As a matter of fact, it has been a source of surprise and amusement to me as I go about my day-to-day affairs in Port Washington to see just how many of my friends are PRC people, past and present.

As my husband, Mike, always says, though, the best part is the babies. Your babies and toddlers make my day when they come into the office for lollipops or animal crackers and stay to play with my keys, copy machine or calculator. Please remember to stop by whenever you are in the PRC. Ariel, Helen and I are never too busy for a small person.

Thanks, again, to all of you for making my first months at the PRC a total pleasure.
