Because the PRC is a parent cooperative, asking for a volunteer commitment from each member; and because we offer mothers of young children the opportunity to use their talents and skills while not sacrificing the precious time they have with their young children, we attract people who want to be engaged for the good of the community. The rewards of participation and service often encourage that engagement long after they have moved on from the PRC.
Our honoree, Karen Seltzer, exemplifies this pattern. Starting as a young mother at the PRC, she has become a leader in her synagogue, her children’s Home and School Associations, Parent Council, Port Washington Education Foundation and the Community Chest of Port Washington. The entire community is infinitely enriched by her contributions of time and creativity.
