The PRC's Outreach Program provides children from low-income families with early childhood classes and enriching experiences while offering a network of parental support. The program includes the Stepping Stones class, field trips, a scholarship program and an extensive summer program.

The Stepping Stones class meets every Wednesday morning from 9:00 am to 10:30 am. The class provides socialization and encourages exploration while preparing children for Pre-Kindergarten. A school bus provides transportation to class. The class is divided according to age and is led by teachers and parents. Activities include singing songs, listening to music, making art projects, listening to story books, eating a snack and practicing gross motor skills in the gym.

In addition to our regular activities, we have special classes led by visiting experts. In the spring Alley Pond Environmental Center visited our class with a beaver and other animals. Lynda Quinn, our "Music Zone" teacher, ran a special music class filled with instruments, singing and dancing. Jeff Sorg, who teaches our "Songs Say So Much" class, played his acoustic guitar, sang songs and performed a puppet show. The Girl Scouts designed "Bedtime and Books," an evening when our children wore pajamas and listened to the Scouts read bedtime stories. Our spring semester was capped off with an exciting field trip to the Bronx Zoo.

Our summer program, funded by the Slade Family Foundation, consisted of weekly all-day field trips. This summer we visited the Long Island Children's Museum, White Post Farms, Jones Beach, Atlantis Marine World and the New York Hall of Science. We ended the summer with a water party outside at the PRC.

The PRC offers financial assistance through its scholarship program, which allows families to participate in the PRC's parent-child and separation classes. Scholarships are awarded on a sliding scale based on the applicant's household income and the number In addition to classes, many other PRC events are offered at a reduced rate to qualified families.

A special thanks to the generous and hard-working Outreach volunteers, who are experts in teaching, social work, nursing and law; to the PRC staff, which continues to be invaluable; and to the Port Washington School District for their collaboration. The Outreach program is funded by the Community Chest of Port Washington, the Manhasset Community Fund/Greentree Foundation "Good Neighbor" Fund, the M.B. & Edna Zale Foundation, the Ozymandias Foundation, Claudia Rouhana, President, the Port Washington Tennis Academy, the Citibank Foundation, the State Bank of Long Island, the New York State Office of Children and Family Services and the Women's Club of Flower Hill, as well as by generous donations from individuals in the community and the PRC's fundraising activies. In addition to providing funding, countless families have donated clothing and baby supplies to the program for distribution to our families. Thank you to those families for their generosity of time and spirit.

Help support the PRC A $335 donation will fund a 1-year membership and two 16-week classes for a family in need. A $176 donation will cover the cost of one class. Certainly, a donation of any amount will help people in our own community who need assistance.

Thanks to the Port Washington Community Chest for generously giving to the PRC and its Outreach Program since 1982. Please remember this support when you are asked to give to the Community Chest.
