president's letter
Dear Members, When Claire was born, I was surprised to find that the old saying really is true: having a baby changes everything. Even though I grew up in Port Washington, I still felt a bit isolated, and I wanted and needed the support of other new mothers in the community. The PRC was there for my baby and me, and it wasn't long before we felt connected again, part of a larger family. We had found a safe place to grow. Claire and I both took our baby steps at the PRC, she in her way, and me... one class at a time. I went from Mothers of Infants to Scrapbooking to Mommy & Me; after that I felt ready to lead my own classes. I've taught for several years at the PRC, most recently as the instructor for Sign with Your Baby and as a leader of our Developmental Playgroups. Now Claire is a first grader; she's grown in so many ways, and so have I. (Thank heaven I still have my toddler son, Avery, at home, to keep me grounded in boardbooks and sippie cups!) I know that taking the role of President was the right thing for me to do, and I am thrilled to be part of the leadership team of this strong, caring and committed parenting organization. I have a great affection for Port Washington, and I am proud of the many ways that the PRC strengthens our town. The Outreach Program provides a lifeline for many low- income families, and the sense of community that it fosters for us all makes our world a better placeeven if that world is a small but lovely peninsula on Long Island. As a final note, I want to stress that the PRC is more than just great classes, meaningful community service and engaging parent discussion groups. It's a place to meet terrific people who really love children and want to have fun. So come and join us. Sign up for a class or two. It's okay to take baby steps...they can get you pretty far!
