Dear Members,

Happy New Year! It's January and the holidays have come and gone. New Year's Day is a rather unusual holiday — certainly not 'child oriented' due to the hour and such. It got me to thinking about celebrations in general...they are a gathering time for friends and family. Some celebrations mark a special milestone, such as a birthday, graduation or anniversary. Others may encourage us to make time to reconnect with each other, like Valentine's Day. Of course, we observe many religious holidays too, each with their own customs and traditions that we cherish.

There are all kinds of holidays and reasons to celebrate. But at the crux of these special times is togetherness — a recognition of one another and the important role we play in each other's lives. We set aside time to show our family, friends and neighbors that we value them for who they are and for how they enrich our lives every day.

Soon it will be time for another celebration with this idea at its very heart. On Friday, May 11, 2007 the PRC will host its annual gala. This year the theme will be "A Celebration of Family". We're honoring Mr. Craig Johnson, Nassau County Legislator, Port Washington resident, long-time PRC member and dad. I'll let Craig do the talking about his family and how they have influenced his life and career at our gala event, but what I can say is that family is at the core of what he does for our community, just as it is for each of us at the PRC.

I'm very proud to be a member of the PRC. Not only does it enrich my life and the lives of my children, it also gives so much to the community. As President of the PRC, I've heard many stories of people that have become members and discovered a warm, caring and supportive network of fellow parents, a community that values and supports one another — a family. Our members feel so fortunate to be a part of this group and are enthusiastic about sharing in and fostering the PRC's mission and helping it grow.

As an active member, you contribute to the PRC when you sign up for our classes, participate in our workshops, take advantage of our babysitting and other services, donate supplies, volunteer at our events, or simply meet our staff and bring your precious children through our doors. We'd like to show you how much we appreciate your membership by inviting you to our upcoming gala event. You're a valued member of our PRC family and we want to celebrate with you.

So be sure to mark Friday, May 11 on your calendar! We hope you'll join us and take time to celebrate, share in the joy of family, and the wonder of how it can empower us to make the world a better place.
