Developmental Playgroups
(Previously called “Mommy and
Me”)
The Developmental Playgroups are a fun
and creative play time for you and your child. Please
read the descriptions of each class as they differ from age to
age. The Developmental Playgroups are parent-led.
Contact the PRC office if you are interested in leading
your class. Training and resource materials are provided,
leading a class fulfills your volunteer requirement and your
child takes the class for FREE.
Note: Child must fall within the listed
age range at the start of the session. Call the office
with any concerns.
Within the framework of the class, recognizing
that each child’s temperament is different, we will
explore ways to encourage hand-eye coordination and balance and
to develop upper body strength through rocking, bouncing,
swaying and pushing up. Activities will encourage
reaching, touching, swiping and holding. Lots of singing
rounds out the class.
Day/Time: Wed/11:00am-12:15pm
Starts: February 6
Age: 3 – 8
months
Fee: $160 for 16
weekly classes
Our babies will be kept moving with a
steady supply of crawling and pulling up. There will be
containers to fill and pour, pulling and rolling toys as well
as toys that “do something” when a button or lever
is pushed. We can also begin crafts with 1/2”
crayons and explore objects with different textures.
Imitation is important at this age, so circle time (with
plenty of nursery rhymes) will be emphasized. We will also
introduce instruments. Snack time will be a learning
experience, too, as babies begin to use their thumbs.
Day/Time: Th/11:00am-12:15pm
Starts: February 7
Age: 9 – 13
months
Fee: $160 for 16
weekly classes
Your beginning walker will be kept moving
in this active playgroup. We’ll have push toys,
carriages and pushcarts aplenty. Puzzles, balls, cars,
trucks and blocks will be discovered. Our circle time
will include walking songs (i.e. “ring around the
rosies”). During craft time we’ll get messy
with play dough, finger paint and glue.
Day/Time: Mon/9:30-10:45am
Starts: February 4
Age: 14 – 19
months
Fee: $160 for 16

At this age, children need raw material to
explore and experiment. Wet sand, play dough, water and
natural elements will give these toddlers plenty of things to discover
for themselves. Kitchen and carpenter toys will be
introduced. Fitting, hook-together, threading and sorting
toys will help children learn how things work and how to make
them work. In circle time we’ll emphasize
dancing, marching and clapping.
Day/Time: Fri/10:45am-12:00pm
Starts:
February 8
Age: 20
– 25 months
Fee: $160 for
16 weekly classes
Your child is starting to imagine and
pretend. Miniature cars, animals and people will provide
plenty of action. At this stage, “dress up”
clothes and props are in generous supply. We’ll
continue to utilize the kitchen toys and carpenter toys, and
add in dolls and other soft toys. We’ll play with
balls and use the tunnel and the parachute during circle time.
We’ll read from the BIG books, play with
instruments and dance, dance, dance.
Day/Time: Fri/9:30-10:45am
Starts:
February 8
Age: 26
– 32 months
Fee: $160

Children this age are learning how to
interact with all the people they find in their world.
They are making friends for the first time, observing and
modeling social behaviors. This is a time for lots of
group activities, make-believe games and role playing.
The children will start to learn organized games that have
rules (duck, duck, goose, freeze tag, etc.) Their
artistic abilities will be encouraged with weekly crafts.
Singing, dancing and active play will add lots of fun.
