Our babies will be kept moving with a steady supply of crawling and pulling up. There will be containers to fill and pour, pulling and rolling toys as well as toys that "do something" when a button or lever is pushed. We can also begin crafts with 1/2" crayons and explore objects with different textures. Imitation is important at this age, so circle time (with plenty of nursery rhymes) will be emphasized. We will also introduce musical instruments. Snack time will be a learning experience, too, as babies begin to use their thumbs.

Each week, children experience the rich text of a select picture book or poem. Using their senses and creativity, they attempt to become "chefs" by using a recipe which is connected to the piece of literature read. Some of the skills and vocabulary introduced are: baking, measuring, stirring, mixing, rolling, halves, wholes, cooperation, manners, hand washing, sanitize, and sharing. Each week the children take home a copy of the recipe used along with the name of the literature they heard. Long after the session ends, children recall wonderful pieces of literature and delicious recipes they participated in making. There can be no greater reward for a child than to recall a positive occurrence he/she had in a classroom and want to recreate that experience long after.
