Superhero of the Month: Javiera Arenas

December 2020

Hi! My name is Javiera and I am so happy to be the PRC’s December Superhero! Fun fact about me is that I love Wonder Woman, I’m a huge fan. Therefore, I am beyond thrilled to be considered a Superhero just like her!

I moved to Port Washington when I was about eight years old and have been here ever since. I went to school in the Port district and am currently finishing up a BA at Queens College. My major is English, and I aspire to become a Children’s librarian. You may recognize me from other places in the community such as the Port Washington Public Library and Littig House. I love to be involved in the Port community. It is such a diverse and beautiful town! My favorite thing about my work in the community is meeting such wonderful families. Each is such a precious gem and an amazing asset to Port.

I am fairly new to the Parent Resource Center as the Outreach Liaison. I started in September of 2020, but have felt so welcomed by the PRC family. The smiles of all the children bring me such joy! I cannot even begin to express the happiness it brings me working with our Outreach families. They are some of the most kind and grateful members of our community. When I do Circle Time, I greatly enjoy reading books such as "Pete the Cat" (personal favorite) and singing and dancing to songs. When possible, I love to do crafts in order to enhance Circle Time. One, of my favorite moments so far at Stepping Stones has been the Diaper Drive we had for Thanksgiving! It was truly a magnificent sight; all the staff and families interacting with each other in such a positive way.

If you are ever around the PRC feel free to come on by and say hi - I enjoy making new friends!
